Ingredients
- 8 corn tortillas (6-inch)
- 1 cups vegetable oil, for frying
- 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/4 teaspoons chili powder (optional)
Method
-
Stack the corn tortillas and slice into thin strips about 1/4 inch wide.
-
Line a baking sheet with paper towels and set a wire rack nearby for draining.
-
Pour the vegetable oil into a 9-inch skillet and heat over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F, or until a strip dropped in sizzles immediately.
-
Fry the tortilla strips in batches of about 1 cup, stirring occasionally, until golden and crisp, 2 to 3 minutes per batch.
-
Lift the strips out with a slotted spoon and transfer to the paper towel-lined sheet to drain.
-
Repeat frying with the remaining tortilla strips, letting the oil return to temperature between batches.
