Peanut butter and jelly get a toasty upgrade when pressed in a hot buttered skillet until golden and crisp. The warmth softens the peanut butter and melts the jelly slightly, creating a cozy sandwich that works for breakfast, lunch, or a quick snack.
Ingredients
- 2 slices white or whole wheat bread
- 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
- 1 tablespoon grape or strawberry jelly
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
Method
-
Spread peanut butter evenly on one slice of bread and jelly on the other slice.
-
Press the two slices together, peanut butter and jelly sides facing in, to form a sandwich.
-
Spread softened butter evenly over both outer sides of the sandwich.
-
Place the sandwich in a 9-inch skillet over medium-low heat and grill until golden brown on the bottom, about 3 minutes.
-
Flip the sandwich and grill the second side until golden brown and the filling is warmed through, about 3 minutes.
-
Transfer to a cutting board, let rest for 1 minute, then slice in half and serve warm.
