The Negroni balances the botanical bite of gin, the sweet herbal depth of vermouth, and the bitter orange edge of Campari in equal measure. Stirred rather than shaken, it stays silky and cold without diluting too fast, making it a go-to aperitivo before dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce gin
  • 1 ounce Campari
  • 1 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 1 orange peel, for garnish
  • 1 cup cup ice cubes

Method

  1. Fill a mixing glass with ice cubes.

  2. Pour the gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth over the ice.

  3. Stir with a bar spoon for about 30 seconds, until well chilled.

  4. Strain into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice.

  5. Twist the orange peel over the glass to release its oils, then drop it in or drape it on the rim to serve.
