This compote simmers raisins with orange juice, cinnamon, and a touch of brown sugar until they swell and the liquid reduces into a syrupy glaze. Spoon it over oatmeal, pancakes, bread pudding, or alongside roasted meats for a sweet-tart contrast. It keeps well in the refrigerator, making it a convenient make-ahead topping.
Ingredients
- 2 cups raisins
- 1 1/2 cups orange juice
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon orange zest, finely grated
Method
-
In a 6-quart saucepan, combine the raisins, orange juice, water, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, and salt.
