This oversized multi-layer sandwich piles together several meats, cheeses, and fresh vegetables for a hearty, no-cook lunch or dinner. Built on three slices of bread with two generous filling layers, it suits big appetites and makes a fun centerpiece for casual gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 6 slices white or wheat sandwich bread
  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
  • 4 ounces sliced deli ham
  • 4 ounces sliced deli turkey
  • 4 ounces sliced salami
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 4 slices ripe tomato
  • 4 leaves iceberg lettuce
  • 1/4 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 slices dill pickle, sliced lengthwise
  • 4 frilled toothpicks or skewers

Method

  1. Lay out the 6 slices of bread. Spread mayonnaise evenly on one side of each slice, then spread mustard over 2 of the slices.

  2. On the first slice of bread, layer the ham and 2 slices of Swiss cheese.

  3. Top with lettuce leaves, tomato slices, and a few onion rings, then place a second slice of bread on top, mayonnaise side down.

  4. On this second slice, layer the turkey, salami, and American cheese.

  5. Top with pickle slices and the remaining onion, then place the third slice of bread on top, mustard side down.

  6. Press down gently on the sandwich to compact the layers, then secure each half with a frilled toothpick.

  7. Slice the sandwich in half diagonally with a sharp serrated knife and serve immediately.
