Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 whole vanilla bean, split and scraped
- 2 Tbsp bourbon
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the sugar and water over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- Increase the heat to high and cook the mixture without stirring until it turns a deep amber color, approximately 5 to 7 minutes.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and carefully whisk in the heavy cream, vanilla bean scrapings, bourbon, and salt. Be cautious as the mixture may bubble vigorously.
- Return the saucepan to low heat and simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly. Remove the vanilla bean.
- Let the caramel sauce cool to room temperature before serving. It will thicken as it cools.
