This cocktail balances the warmth of bourbon with bright lemon juice and simple syrup, shaken hard until frothy and chilled. An optional egg white adds a silky, cloud-like foam to the top. Serve it as a before-dinner sipper or a weekend happy-hour staple.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces bourbon whiskey
  • 3/4 ounces fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 ounces simple syrup
  • 1 egg white (optional)
  • 1 cup ice cubes, divided
  • 1 maraschino cherry, for garnish
  • 1 lemon wheel or slice, for garnish

Method

  1. Add the bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, and egg white (if using) to a cocktail shaker without ice.

  2. Seal the shaker and dry shake vigorously for 15 seconds to emulsify the egg white and build froth.

  3. Open the shaker, add ice, reseal, and shake again vigorously for 15 seconds until well chilled.

  4. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a chilled rocks glass over fresh ice.

  5. Garnish with a maraschino cherry and a lemon wheel, then serve immediately.
