Ingredients

  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 3 Tbsp sugar, divided
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup dried cherries
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast and 1 Tbsp sugar in warm water (110°F/45°C) in a small bowl. Let it stand for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Combine yeast mixture, oil, salt, and remaining sugar in a large mixing bowl. Gradually stir in flour until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 6-8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  4. Punch down the dough and knead in cherries and chocolate chips. Divide dough into 3 portions and braid into a loaf. Let rise for another 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Bake the Challah for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
