Ingredients

  • 1 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup pecans, whole
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 1 Tbsp corn syrup
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine 1/2 cup butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup over medium heat until melted, stirring occasionally. Pour mixture into a 9×13-inch baking dish and sprinkle with chopped pecans evenly over the top.
  2. In a stand mixer, dissolve yeast in warm milk (about 110°F or 43°C). Add sugar, 1/2 cup butter, salt, egg, and 2 cups of flour. Mix on medium speed until smooth.
  3. Gradually add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms. Turn onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Roll dough into a 16×10-inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface. Spread with melted butter, then evenly sprinkle with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and whole pecans. Roll up jelly-roll style, starting with a long side, and cut into 12 equal slices using a sharp knife.
  5. Place slices in the prepared baking dish with cut sides facing up. Cover loosely with a clean kitchen towel and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the buns for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. While buns are baking, prepare the glaze by combining bourbon, granulated sugar, and vanilla in a small saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring, until sugar has completely dissolved. Remove from heat.
  8. Once buns are baked, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly in the pan. Drizzle the bourbon glaze over the warm buns before serving.
