  5. Add another layer of the remaining potatoes, seasoning again with the salt and black pepper.
  6. Top with the remaining cheese, spreading it evenly.
  7. In a saucepan, combine the milk and butter, and heat over medium until the butter is melted.
  8. Pour the milk mixture evenly over the potato and cheese layers in the dish.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
