Ingredients

  • 1 cup long-grain rice
  • 1/2 cup parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 cup dill, chopped
  • 1/4 cup mint, chopped
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 jar grape leaves
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Rinse the grape leaves under cold water to remove excess saltiness.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the rice, parsley, dill, mint, olive oil, lemon juice, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  3. Place a grape leaf with the shiny side down on a flat surface. Add a spoonful of the rice mixture near the stem end.
  4. Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling, then roll it up tightly like a cigar.
  5. Repeat with the remaining grape leaves and filling.
  6. Place the dolmades seam side down in a large pot, packing them snugly together.
  7. Pour the water over the dolmades and place a plate on top to keep them submerged.
  8. Cover the pot and simmer on low heat for 45 minutes.
  9. Remove from heat and let cool before serving.
