Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 burger buns
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter.
  2. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 10 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions, then shape into loose balls.
  4. Increase the heat to medium-high and place one ball of beef in the skillet.
  5. Using a spatula, press down on the ball to flatten it into a patty. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Cook the patty for 2-3 minutes per side until crispy and browned. Top with a slice of provolone cheese and allow it to melt.
  7. Toast the burger buns in the skillet with the remaining butter until golden brown.
  8. Assemble the burgers by placing the cooked beef patty on a bun, topping with caramelized onions, and finishing with the top bun.
