Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add the sliced onions, salt, and pepper to the skillet.
  4. Cook the onions for about 25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and caramelized.
  5. On a floured surface, roll out the puff pastry about an inch larger in both dimensions.
  6. Cut the puff pastry into 12 equal squares.
  7. Fit each square into a muffin tin cup, pressing lightly to mold.
  8. Fill each puff pastry shell with caramelized onions, crumbled bacon, and a sprinkle of Gruyère cheese.
  9. Brush the edges of each tartlet with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
  11. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
