Ingredients

  • 2 cups purple corn masa harina
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 10 pieces corn husks, soaked in warm water

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the purple corn masa harina, vegetable broth, vegetable oil, baking powder, and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  2. Take a soaked corn husk, and spread a thin layer of the masa mixture onto the center of the husk.
  3. Add a spoonful of your chosen filling to the center of the masa.
  4. Fold the sides of the husk over the filling and dough, then fold the bottom of the husk up.
  5. Place the tamale seam-side down in a steamer basket.
  6. Steam the tamales for 1 hour.
  7. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before serving.
