Ingredients

  • 1 whole yeast
  • 2 1/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 whole eggs
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • 5-6 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 qt vegetable oil
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 2 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the yeast in warm milk in a small bowl and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine sugar, salt, eggs, melted butter, and 2 cups of flour. Stir in the yeast mixture until smooth.
  3. Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, mixing until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. Knead briefly on a floured surface.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm location until it has doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Roll the dough out on a floured surface to 1/2-inch thickness and cut into donut shapes. Let the donuts rise on a floured surface for 30 minutes.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer to 375°F (190°C). Carefully fry the donuts until golden brown, turning once. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Combine maple syrup and powdered sugar in a bowl to make the glaze. Dip the warm donuts into the glaze and allow them to set before serving.
