Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup mixed berries, fresh or frozen
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, and granulated sugar. Heat over medium-low until the sugar is dissolved, stirring occasionally.
  2. Remove the mixture from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
  3. Add the fresh basil leaves to the cream mixture, cover, and let steep for 30 minutes at room temperature.
  4. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, discarding the basil leaves.
  5. If using frozen berries, allow them to thaw slightly. Puree the mixed berries in a blender until smooth.
  6. Stir the berry puree into the strained cream mixture until fully combined.
  7. Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  8. Transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 2 hours or until firm.
  9. Serve the basil berry ice cream as a refreshing treat, garnished with additional basil leaves if desired.
