A savory quiche with caramelized onions, crispy bacon, and creamy Gruyère cheese makes a delightful brunch dish.
Ingredients
- 1 pre-made pie crust
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 6 slices bacon
- 1 1/2 cups Gruyère cheese, grated
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Place the pre-made pie crust in a 9-inch pie tin, crimping the edges.
- In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until they are caramelized, about 30 minutes.
- Remove the onions from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, cook the bacon slices until crispy. Remove from skillet and crumble.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, salt, pepper, and nutmeg until well combined.
- Spread the caramelized onions over the bottom of the pie crust. Add the crumbled bacon and grated Gruyère cheese evenly across the onions.
- Pour the egg and cream mixture over the layered ingredients in the pie crust.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the quiche is set and the top is lightly golden.
- Allow the quiche to rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
