Ceviche (Cebiche)

Ceviche, also known as Cebiche, is a vibrant seafood dish from Latin America. This dish features raw fish or seafood marinated in citrus juices like lime or lemon, which “cooks” the proteins. The citrus gives ceviche a tangy taste, while ingredients such as onions, tomatoes, and cilantro add freshness and texture. Ceviche is great for hot summer days or as a light appetizer. It’s easy to prepare and can be tailored to individual taste preferences, offering a refreshing culinary experience with each bite.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound white fish fillets, cubed
  • 1 cup lime juice
  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 whole avocado, diced
  • 1 whole jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced

Instructions

  1. Place the fish in a bowl and pour the lime and lemon juice over it. Ensure the fish is fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for about 30 minutes until the fish turns opaque.
  2. Add the red onion, cherry tomatoes, cilantro, avocado, and jalapeno to the fish mixture. Stir gently to combine all ingredients.
  3. Let the ceviche marinate in the refrigerator for an additional 15-20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  4. Serve the ceviche cold, garnished with additional cilantro leaves and lime wedges.
