Indulge in the rich and creamy layers of a chocolate mousse cake that is perfect for any special occasion.
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 8 ounces semisweet chocolate, melted
- 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.
- In a bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate large bowl, beat the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well between each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, and mixing until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the mousse, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Fold in the melted chocolate and confectioners' sugar until well combined.
- Spread the chocolate mousse over the cooled cake. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
