These vibrant half-dipped donuts are a delightful treat with colorful frostings that make any occasion special.
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 cup whole milk, lukewarm
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups vegetable oil, for frying
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- red food coloring
- blue food coloring
- black food coloring

Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, combine milk, sugar, eggs, salt, and softened butter. Mix well.
- Add the yeast mixture and gradually blend in the flour until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and roll it out to about 1/2-inch thickness.
- Cut out donuts with a floured cutter and place on a baking sheet to rise for another 45 minutes.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry donuts in batches, turning once until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- To make the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract.
- Divide the glaze into four bowls. Tint each with red, blue, black, and yellow food coloring.
- Dip one side of each donut in the red and blue glazes and the other side in the black and yellow glazes. Let the glaze set before serving.
