Lumpia Shanghai are crispy Filipino spring rolls filled with savory pork and vegetables, perfect for snacking.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup carrots, finely grated
  • 1 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 30 lumpia wrappers
  • to taste salt
  • 2 cups vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, carrots, onion, eggs, garlic, soy sauce, and ground black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
  2. Lay a lumpia wrapper on a flat surface. Place about 1 to 2 tablespoons of the pork mixture along one side of the wrapper.
  3. Fold the sides of the wrapper over the filling and then roll tightly to enclose the filling completely.
  4. Seal the edge with a dab of water. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
  5. In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry the lumpia in batches, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and crisp, about 3 to 5 minutes per batch.
  7. Remove the lumpia from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve hot with sweet and sour sauce.
