Lumpia Shanghai are crispy Filipino spring rolls filled with savory pork and vegetables, perfect for snacking.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1 cup carrots, finely grated
- 1 cup onion, finely chopped
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 30 lumpia wrappers
- to taste salt
- 2 cups vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, carrots, onion, eggs, garlic, soy sauce, and ground black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- Lay a lumpia wrapper on a flat surface. Place about 1 to 2 tablespoons of the pork mixture along one side of the wrapper.
- Fold the sides of the wrapper over the filling and then roll tightly to enclose the filling completely.
- Seal the edge with a dab of water. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
- In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the lumpia in batches, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and crisp, about 3 to 5 minutes per batch.
- Remove the lumpia from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with sweet and sour sauce.
