Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup cashews, chopped
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  1. Rinse the basmati rice until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes.
  2. Combine chicken with yogurt, garam masala, turmeric powder, and salt in a bowl. Let it marinate for at least 1 hour.
  3. In a large pot, heat butter over medium heat and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the marinated chicken and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Layer cooked chicken with soaked and drained rice in the pot. Top with fried onions and cashews, then pour in water.
  5. Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid and cook on low heat for 20-25 minutes, or until the rice is fully cooked and fluffy.
  6. Serve the Nasi Biryani hot, optionally accompanied by raita.
