Enjoy the savory and tender flavors of pork carnitas tacos, topped with a zesty homemade sauce, fresh cilantro, and crisp red onion.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds pork shoulder, cut into chunks
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 8 corn tortillas
  • 1/2 cup cilantro, chopped
  • 1 red onion, sliced

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add pork shoulder chunks, season with salt and black pepper, and brown on all sides.
  2. Transfer pork to a slow cooker. Add chopped onion and minced garlic on top.
  3. Pour orange juice, chicken broth, and lime juice over the pork. Sprinkle cumin and chili powder evenly over the mixture.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or until the pork is tender and easily shredded with a fork.
  5. Once cooked, shred the pork with two forks and mix well with the sauce in the slow cooker.
  6. Warm corn tortillas in a skillet or microwave until pliable.
  7. Assemble tacos by placing a portion of shredded pork onto each tortilla. Top with fresh cilantro and sliced red onion.
  8. Serve hot, allowing guests to add additional sauce if desired.
