Ingredients
- 2 cups glutinous rice, soaked
- 1 pound pork belly, diced (optional)

- 1/4 cup dried shrimp, soaked
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup dark soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp white pepper
- 1/2 tsp five-spice powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 6 sheets bamboo leaves, soaked
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the soaked glutinous rice, diced pork belly, dried shiitake mushrooms, and dried shrimp.
- Add soy sauce, dark soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, white pepper, five-spice powder, and salt to the mixture. Stir well to combine.
- Place a bamboo leaf on a flat surface. Add a spoonful of the rice mixture to the center of the leaf.
- Fold the leaf to encase the rice mixture, forming a triangular or rectangular shape. Secure with kitchen twine.
- Repeat the folding and securing process with the remaining ingredients to make additional Zongzi.
- Steam the Zongzi for about 2 hours until the rice is cooked and the filling is tender.
- Once steamed, serve the Zongzi warm or at room temperature, unwrapping the bamboo leaves before consuming.
