Indulge in a delightful combination of Korean flavors and crispy fried chicken with this air-fried twist that offers a healthier alternative. The recipe features tender chicken pieces enveloped in a sticky, spicy glaze delivering umami and a kick of heat. Ideal for a relaxed meal or as a party appetizer, the dish stands out with its robust flavors and crunchy texture.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken wings, drumettes and flats separated
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp ginger powder
  • 1/2 cup gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds, for garnish
  • 2 tbsp green onions, thinly sliced, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, toss the chicken wings with the cornstarch, salt, garlic powder, and ginger powder until evenly coated.
  2. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  3. Place the chicken wings in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they are not touching each other.
  4. Air-fry the chicken wings for 10 minutes, then use tongs to flip them over and air-fry for another 10 minutes until crispy and cooked through.
  5. In a small saucepan, combine the gochujang, soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, and toasted sesame oil over medium heat. Stir continuously until the sauce thickens slightly, about 3-4 minutes.
  6. Transfer the hot, air-fried chicken wings to a bowl and toss them in the spicy glaze until evenly coated.
  7. Transfer the wings to a serving dish and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.
