Lumpia That Will Go with Everything This AAPIHM

Lumpia, also known as Filipino spring rolls, offer a delightful combination of flavors and textures, making them a popular choice for any gathering, but especially during Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. These rolls are filled with a savory mixture of ground pork, vegetables, and seasonings, then fried to achieve a crispy, golden exterior. Lumpia can be a tasty appetizer or a snack that satisfies cravings. Pair them with a side of sweet and sour dipping sauce to enhance their flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup carrots, julienned
  • 1 cup cabbage, finely shredded
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp black pepper, ground
  • 12 pieces lumpia wrappers
  • 2 cups vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, garlic, carrots, cabbage, soy sauce, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Place a lumpia wrapper on a clean surface. Add about 2 tablespoons of the pork mixture in a line across the center.
  3. Fold the sides of the wrapper over the filling, then roll it up tightly like a burrito.
  4. Brush the edge of the wrapper with water to seal the lumpia.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry the lumpia in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  7. Remove the cooked lumpia and drain on paper towels.
