Ingredients

  • 2 lbs mutton, bone-in
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 2 whole onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp garlic paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • to taste salt
  • 2 whole green chilies, slit
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 inch ginger, julienned
  • fresh coriander leaves, chopped

Instructions

  1. Heat ghee in a large pot over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and fry until golden brown.
  2. Add the mutton and cook until it is browned on all sides.
  3. Stir in the yogurt, ginger paste, garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and salt. Mix thoroughly to coat the mutton with the spices.
  4. Add the slit green chilies and water. Cover the pot and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for approximately 2 hours or until the mutton is tender, stirring occasionally and checking the liquid level to ensure it does not dry out.
  5. Once the mutton is tender, remove from heat and garnish with julienned ginger and chopped fresh coriander leaves.
  6. Serve the Kunna Gosht with naan or rice.
