Enjoy a refreshing twist on classic lemonade with the addition of blueberries, basil, and mint leaves for a delightful summer drink.
Ingredients
- 1 cup blueberries
- 1 cup basil leaves
- 1 cup mint leaves
- 1 cup lemon juice
- 1 cup sugar
- 8 cups water
- 1 cup ice cubes
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine blueberries, sugar, and 1 cup of water. Cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the blueberries start to burst.
- Remove from heat and let the blueberry mixture cool slightly. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing down to extract juices. Discard solids.
- In a large pitcher, combine the blueberry syrup, lemon juice, and remaining 7 cups of water. Stir well to combine.
- Add basil leaves and mint leaves to the pitcher. Gently muddle them with a wooden spoon to release their essential oils.
- Add ice cubes to the pitcher and stir again.
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- Serve the lemonade over ice, garnished with additional basil or mint leaves if desired.
