Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • warm water
  • 2 tbsp za’atar spice blend

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine all-purpose flour, active dry yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. Add olive oil and about 3/4 cup of warm water, mixing until a dough forms. Adjust with more water if needed until the dough is smooth.
  3. Knead the dough for 5 to 7 minutes until elastic and smooth. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  5. Divide the dough into four equal balls. Flatten each ball into a round shape about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Mix the za’atar spice blend with a bit more olive oil to make a paste, and spread evenly over each flattened dough.
  7. Place the topped dough on a baking sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
