Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup pistachios, finely chopped
- 1 tsp ground cardamom
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1 lb filo dough, thawed
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a small saucepan, combine sugar, water, and lemon juice. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let the syrup cool.
- In a bowl, mix chopped pistachios with cardamom.
- Brush a 9×13 inch baking dish with melted butter. Place a sheet of filo dough in the dish and brush with butter. Repeat with half of the filo sheets, buttering each layer.
- Sprinkle half of the pistachio mixture over the filo. Add the remaining filo sheets, buttering each layer as before.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond-shaped pieces. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Pour the cooled syrup over the hot baklava. Allow it to cool completely before serving.
