Ingredients

  • 1 head green cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup uncooked rice
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Remove the core from the cabbage and blanch the leaves until pliable, about 5 minutes. Drain and cool.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, rice, onion, garlic, dill, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the meat mixture onto the center of each cabbage leaf. Fold in the sides and roll up tightly.
  4. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the cabbage rolls in batches, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides.
  5. Place browned cabbage rolls in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Pour tomato sauce over the rolls.
  6. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 1 hour.
  7. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes to allow the rolls to crisp slightly on top.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with additional fresh dill if desired.
