Turon, also known as banana spring rolls, is a beloved Filipino snack that combines ripe bananas with brown sugar, all wrapped in a crispy spring roll wrapper. The sweet, caramelized banana filling beautifully contrasts with the crunchy exterior, creating an enjoyable treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 6 whole ripe bananas, peeled and halved lengthwise
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 12 pieces spring roll wrappers
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Place a banana half on a spring roll wrapper. Sprinkle with about 1 tablespoon of brown sugar.
  2. Roll the banana in the wrapper, folding in the sides securely. Dab the edges with water to seal them.
  3. Preheat 1/4 cup of vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  4. Carefully fry the wrapped bananas in hot oil, turning occasionally, until all sides are golden brown.
  5. Transfer the fried rolls onto a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
