Wonton Soup is a classic Chinese dish featuring seasoned pork or shrimp wrapped in delicate wonton wrappers, served in a savory broth with bok choy and garnished with green onions. This recipe provides a way to enjoy a comforting meal with flavorful broth and perfectly cooked wontons, which are easier to prepare than they appear. There’s a delightful contrast between the tender wontons and the robust broth, making it a delightful choice for a cozy meal any time of year.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1 pack wonton wrappers
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups bok choy, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, grated

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, thoroughly mix the ground pork, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, and ginger until well combined.
  2. Place a small amount of the pork mixture in the center of a wonton wrapper. Moisten the edges with water, fold the wrapper over the filling to form a triangle, and press the edges to seal firmly.
  3. In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a simmer over medium heat.
  4. Add the chopped bok choy to the broth, allowing it to cook for about 3 minutes.
  5. Carefully add the prepared wontons to the simmering broth, cooking for 5-7 minutes until the wontons are tender and cooked through.
  6. Serve the soup hot, garnished with chopped green onions.
